Two pedestrians passed away after being hit by a car in Woodward Township on Monday, September 12th.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police in Montoursville in a report, 30-year-old Michael A. Pfleegor of Salladasburg was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta in a north direction on Route 220’s right lane. At the same time, three pedestrians were changing a tire on a 2009 Ford Fusion. While the Ford was partly in the northbound lane, it was parked legally as it had a flat tire. The Volkswagen neared the Ford and hit the pedestrians. Specifically, the crash occurred about 66 feet to the west of an unnamed street at about 4:36 p.m.
Two of the pedestrians passed away at the scene, and the Lycoming County Coroner was on scene at about 5:15 p.m. The names of the deceased have not yet been released. 28-year-old Yousaf Basir of Williamsport, who was the third pedestrian, had injuries. A family member traveled to the scene and took Basir to Williamsport Regional Medical Center. A 3-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl from Salladasburg who were passengers in Pfleegor’s vehicle may have been injured. A family member of the children traveled to the scene and took them to Jersey Shore Hospital. The 3-year-old was in a child safety seat. The 7-year-old and Pfleegor were wearing their seat belts. The Ford had minor damage.
According to police, alcohol did not contribute to the crash. Police are continuing to look into the crash, along with Troop F accident reconstruction specialists and Troop F Montoursville Forensic Services unit. After the crash, both of Route 220’s northbound lanes stayed closed for a few hours. A single southbound lane was open. The detour used Daughertys Run Road, West Fourth Street, and Quenshukney Road.
