Mansfield Reorganizes Secondary Education Programs
MANSFIELD, PA— Secondary Education programs at Mansfield University have been reorganized into a single Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) degree called Professional Studies in Secondary Education. The Office of the Chancellor for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education approved the reorganization on May 24.
Students in the newly reorganized program may choose from concentrations in Earth/Space Science Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, and Social Studies: History Education leading to secondary education certifications in those content areas.
“This is great news for our Education program, our university, and the surrounding region that we serve,” John M. Ulrich, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, said. “The reorganization enables us to continue to meet the educational needs of our region — and beyond — effectively and efficiently.”
The reorganized program includes core course requirements in Statistics and Foundations in Digital Media that are designed to address content knowledge and skills that all secondary teachers need to meet the professional expectations in their field today.
“I am especially grateful to our K-16 Council partners — the superintendents of our regional school districts — for their feedback and support for this redesigned program,” Ulrich said.
