A former Mansfield U baseball standout has signed a contract to go pro. Taylor Hillson will be playing for the Evansville Otters of the Independent Frontier League. Here is the official press release from Mansfield University.
MANSFIELD, Pa. – Former Mansfield University baseball standout Taylor Hillson (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) has signed a professional contract to play with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League.
Hillson will make his professional debut Wednesday night when Evansville travels to the River City Rascals in O’Fallon, Missouri. He is the 54th Mountaineer in program history to play baseball at the professional level since 1969
“Playing professional baseball has always been a dream of mine,” explained Hillson. “I’m very thankful for this opportunity and I am looking to make the best of it.”
Hillson made 169 starts in 172 appearances at shortstop and third base in his four seasons with the Mountaineers. The Mansfield, Pa. native batted a career .323 with 182 hits including 31 doubles, two triples and two home runs. His 182 hits ranks 10th on the Mansfield all-time list. He posted a .403 career on base pct. as the Mountaineers’ leadoff hitter. Hillson stole 32 bases in his career.
Hillson was a 2nd Team All-PSAC East selection at third base as a freshman.
Evansville is coming off its second Frontier League title in the team’s history in 2016. The Otters are 2-5 overall after opening the season on May 6.
